C V Balakrishnan is a renowned novelist, and short story writer. He is an author of more than 40 works, including novels, short story collections, screenplays and essays. His most notable literary works are Ayussinte Pusthakam, Disa, Kamamohitham, and Atmavinu Sariyennu Thonnunna Karyangal. He is a recipient of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award three times and received the Kerala State Film Award for the best book on cinema in 2002. His autobiography is titled Paralmeen Neenthunna Padam. Niyogi Books translated his book Ayussinte Pusthakam into English as The Book of Passing Shadows.
