Banu Mushtaq is an acclaimed writer and social activist from Karnataka. Her writings include short-story collections, novels, and poetry anthologies. She is the recipient of several awards, including the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi Award. The Kannada film Haseena, written by Mushtaq and directed by Girish Kasaravalli, received national and international recognition. Her short story collection, Haseena and Other Stories, translated by Bhasthi, won the inaugural Pen Present Award for translation.
