Sashi Kumar is a journalist, and media entrepreneur. He is the founder and chairman of the Media Development Foundation, which administers the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai. In 1992, he founded and launched Asianet, India`s first regional language satellite TV channel (Malayalam), as well as the country`s first statewide cable TV network in Kerala. In 2004, he wrote and directed the award-winning Hindi feature film Kaya Taran, and he has also acted in a few Malayalam feature films. Tulika Books published Unmediated: Essays on Media, Culture, and Cinema in 2013, a collection of his articles and essays. He has won numerous awards for his contributions to journalism.
