Anwar Ali is a poet, lyricist and translator. Mazhakkalam, his first collection of poetry, received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi`s Kanakasree Award in 2000, and Mehaboob Express received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi`s Poetry Award in 2021. He translated several poems and Tetsuko Kuroyanagi`s literary classic Totto-Chan into Malayalam. He writes film lyrics and was awarded the Kerala State Film Award for Best Lyricist in 2020. Ali`s documentary, Maruvili (Call from the Shore), is based on the life and poetry of veteran poet Attoor Ravivarma. He also received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Screenplay in 2003.
