Shajahan Madampat is a writer and cultural commentator, writing in Malayalam, English and occasionally in Arabic. He has to his credit three books in Malayalam, one in English (God is Neither a Khomeini nor a Mohan Bhagwat) in addition to numerous essays and articles published in leading journals and newspapers such as The Hindu, Frontline, Indian Express, Huffington Post, Outlook, Gulf News, The Wire, Khaleej Times, Bahrain Tribune, Biblio, Economic and Political Weekly, Mainstream, Mathrubhumi Weekly, Kalakaumudi weekly, Madhyamam Weekly, Bhashaposhini and Pachakkuthira. Much of his writings over the past four years appeared in Outlook, an Indian weekly current affairs magazine. He wrote a fortnightly column titled Word & World for Outlook. He holds a Master’s degree in Arabic Literature and M. Phil in International Studies with specialization in Middle Eastern Studies, both from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He has presented papers and given talks at several national and international conference in India and abroad. He lives and works in Abu Dhabi.
