M. Mukundan is one of the founders of modernity in Malayalam literature, who is known as 'Mayyazhiyude Kathakaaran'. He worked at the French Embassy in Delhi, and almost all of his writings were written during these forty years in Delhi. Mukundan has so far published 12 novels and ten collections of short stories. Mayyazhippuzhayude Theerangalil, Daivathinte Vikrithikal, Appam Chudunna Kunkiyamma and Lesli Achante Kadangal are some of his important works. He has received many honours including JCB Award, Vayalar Award, Sahitya Akademi Award, Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Crossword Book Award and the Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the highest literacy honour of the Government of Kerala.
