J Devika is a feminist historian, and translator. She has written several books and articles on gender relations, politics, social reforms, and development in Kerala society. She contributes extensively to notable publications on contemporary issues. Devika translates both fiction and nonfiction between Malayalam and English. The most notable translations are Nalini Jameela`s autobiography (The Autobiography of a Sex Worker), K.R. Meera`s award-winning novel Aarachar (Hangwoman), Ambikasuthan Mangad`s Enmakaje (Swarga), and Sarah Joseph and Unni R.`s short stories. En-Gendering Individuals: The Language of Re-formation in Early 20th Century Keralam, Kulasthreeyum Chanthappennum Undayathengane, and Niranthara Prathipaksham are some of her major works.
