Madan Gopal Singh began as a student of literature, linguistics and cinema. He taught literature in a college affiliated to the University of Delhi before retiring and becoming a full-time itinerant singer, composer and poet. Amongst the better known films for which he composed music are Khamosh Pani (Silent Water, 2003 Pakistan) and Song of the Scorpions (2016, Switzerland, Germany, France). He has travelled extensively as a performer-narrator with his group Chaar Yaar doing Rumi, Baba Farid, Kabir to John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen etc. He was on the board of editors of the Journal of Arts and Ideas for a decade. He has worked with Mani Kaul, Kumar Shahani, Saeed Mirza, MK Raina, Safdar Hashmi, Manjit Bawa, Ranbir Kaleka, the New York based band Bang on a Can and Harmonic Choir led by David Hykes on various projects. Currently, he is working of the Music of Journeys.
