Amrita Narayanan is a practicing clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst with an interest in literature and literary theory. She is the author of A Pleasant Kind of Heavy and Other Erotic Stories, which was a finalist for the Shakti Bhatt First Book Award and the editor of the anthology, The Parrots of Desire: 3000 years of Indian Erotica. She has written numerous essays on psychoanalysis, women and sexuality that have been published in India, the UK and US. Her awards include the Taylor and Francis Prize for psychoanalytic writing, the Sudhir Kakar Prize for psychoanalytic writing, and the Homi Bhabha Fellowship.
