Sindhu Nepolean is an independent journalist by profession and a researcher in Media and Communication. She belongs to the Mukkuva(r) community – a traditional marine fishing community in South India and her father is an artisanal fisherman. She writes about issues of gender, development, culture, and media. Currently she is working as the station head of a community radio station that contributes largely to the occupational safety of marine fishermen and also acts as the research assistant for ‘Forecasting with Fishers’, a UK funded research project. Sindhu is the founding member of the Coastal Students Cultural Forum, an NGO working for the betterment of coastal youth.
