Dr Meena T Pillai is Professor at the Institute of English, University of Kerala, and also the Director of the Center for Cultural Studies at the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. She writes extensively about the cultural politics of Kerala’s modernity, popular culture’s negotiation of Kerala’s gender histories, Indian cinema’s shaping of the national imaginary, and the transformations of Kerala’s gender cultures in the age of new media. She edited the book, Women in Malayalam Cinema: Naturalising Gender Hierarchies. Her essays have appeared in prominent academic journals and as part of anthologies. She also contributes to leading newspapers and magazines.
