Well known psychoanalyst and writer. He has specialized in the fields of cultural psychology and the psychology of religion. He spent his early childhood in Sargodha, now in Pakistan. In 1975 he moved to Delhi and now resides in Goa. He started his career as a psychoanalyst and also held the position of the Head of Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology. He has been the 40th Anniversary Senior Fellow at the Centre for Study of World Religions at Harvard, a visiting professor at the universities of Chicago, McGill, Melbourne, Hawai and Vienna. His works shows the relation between mysticism and psychoanalysis. He has won many awards and accolades such as the “Boyer Prize for Psychological Anthropology of the American Anthropological Association”, “The Order of Merit, Federal Republic of Germany”, “Distinguished Service Award”, “Indo-American Psychiatric Association”, “Karolyi Foundation Award for Young Writers”. Some of his noted works are Tales of Love, Sex and Danger, Intimate Relations, The Colors of Violence, The Ascetic of Desire, Mira and the Mahatma etc.
